Loving Yoga Class

I decided that I needed to get back into shape, but didn’t want to do a cold start lifting weights program, so I decided to ease back into it by starting yoga first. I think it was a lucky break that I chose that because Yoga is an excellent workout, I feel I benefit more physically from it then just thrashing on my muscles and It makes me feel better and more balanced. I’ve already started paying more attention to my body, my posture is better, and I’m calmer. Usually red lights piss me off, but lately, if I hit a red light, I’m like “cool, another chance to practice breathe of fire”, and it’s made a lot of other little differences too, like when I’m at the grocery store, long lines and slow cashiers used to piss me off, now I just get another chance to meditate or focus on my breathing. I’m really enjoying the changes it’s making in my life. Think I might be hooked.

Opera Web Browser Review

Having been a staunch Linux user for nearly 8 years now, one of my most used programs was the Firefox webbrowser, when it first came out it was amazing. It was fast, simple, clean, and they had stripped out the email client and html editor so it was lean as well. However with the recent arrival of Firefox 3, it has become obvious that Firefox is now bloatware, it’s getting slower and its becoming more of a pig on system resources than it has ever been. Enter Opera webbrowser. I tried Opera a few years ago and was not impressed, but they have come a long way since then. i recently tried Opera 9 (10 will be coming out soon) and I was blown away, it’s like how Firefox was in the old days. Opera is clean, simple and fast, with many neat features, let me tell you about some of them;

  1. Speed Dial - This is a very cool new feature, similar to bookmarks, but somehow it seems to keep and updated and current version of the webpage in cache for you, so when you click the speed dial button of you favorite website, it opens virtually instantly.
  2. Seemless Email Integration - Many browsers have an email button, that opens a seperate program in a seperate window, but with Opera, the email clint IS your browser, its just another tabbed window with your inbox in it,  it's not a seperate program window.
  3. Notes - This feature has a cut and paste board open on the left side of your screen, so that you can highlight and literally take notes from each website you visit, very cool for research
  4. Bittorrent Integration - in normal browser you click a torrent file and a file transfer dialogue opens asking you where you want to save your torrent file, then you open your torrent download program and feed it the torrent you just downloaded, in Opera, you click a torrent file and it asks you where you want to download the actual file (eg movie, mp3, etc) that you would get when your torrent downloader finishes, it then manages and downloads the actual content of the torrent for you, it IS your new bittorrent client.

once I saw all these features in action, and saw that Opera handles java and Flash a little bit smoother than Firefox does, I immediately switched my system default browser to Opera. I also downloaded a template that basically behaves like firefox’s Flashblock, which I find a vital necesity on the modern internet. Try out the new Opera, you’ll love it.

HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM LAS VEGAS! BE WISER AND KINDER THAN LAST YEAR.

Review of "The Day the Earth Stood Still"

earth_wideweb__470x3570 Ok, a lot of critics have been bashing this movie, mostly because faulty memory has caused them to remember the original being far greater than it was, I too loved the original, and found it very appealing, especially GORT, and yes, I said the phrase “Klattu Barrada Nikto” more than once. Despite all the critical nay-saying I really liked this movie, it was very faithful in feeling to the sentiment of the original, with very appropriate modifications for modern times. The new GORT is just AWESOME, special effects were excellent, Surfer Keanu did justice to the role of Klattu. In the original film Klattu came to Earth basically tro give a warning, shape up to the standards of the galatic UN, or you will be annihilated. In the modern version, Klattu is from the galactic EPA, and he’s just here to annihilate us, we already had our warnings. I really enjoyed this movie and find it to be a worthy homage to the original.

Review of X-files I Want to Believe

xfiles2 The new X-Files movie left me wanting more, and not in a good way, there were no aliens, no ghosts, a dubious moral situation with a pedophile priest seeking redemption and a two headed dog. They chose to spin the movie as a silence of the lambs type of thriller, racing the clock to save the girl but everything, including the tension just fell flat. I am/was a long time fan of the x-files, and i even moderately liked the first movie, but this was little more than a walking party for old characters, without their old flare. If you could get this movie for free on redbox monday, go ahead, other than that, avoid it.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
