A Good Weekend

For once in a time that is longer than I can remember, I finally had a good relaxing weekend. I went to Friday night Go Club, of which I am president, and run the website at LVGOCLUB.ORG and was worried, but it turned out to be a really nice time. I went home, got some good sleep, and then met several friends and co-workers for sushi. I saw some very good movies, one of which was an unusually insiteful film called “Hard Pill” which was very entertaining and made an interesting point. Also a nice little horror movie that is a gestalt of john carpenters “The Thing”, several zombie movies and BioHazard, called “Splinter” which I thought was very good. I also saw a good sci-fi movie called “Outlander” which is billed as Predator Versus Beowulf, and it really delivered on that promise, it was well worth watching. I am currently reading The Swarm by Frank Schatzing

Postsingular by Rudy Rucker

postsingularcoverI just finished reading Postsingular, a new scifi series from Mathematician and SciFi writer Rudy Rucker. I read his “Wares” series before and loved it, and always hoped he would continue that series, well this is even better, its a new take on the same ideas. This is a great novel, exciting, inciteful, entertaining as hell, and it really makes you think. Nobody makes spacial topology as interesting a plot point like Rucker can. The new book in the series comes out tomorrow, called  HYLOZOIC

Update

Well, I’ve had a good, but busy, weekend. Saturday morning I got up early to go do the ACI proctoring, then had to go to work to pick up my friend JK to go to sushi. We got stuck in traffic, but made it. The sushi was my idea, I wanted to take my friend and co-worker out to try it for his very first time, so yes, I popped his sushi-cherry. He loved it, he was so full when he left he looked like he was about to give birth. Then I went to Corporate Challenge chess, where my team, known as “The TEAM” have had a winning streak for the last three years running, and our streak finally broke, we fought well and hard, but in the end, the last minute changes to our line-up killed us, and we lost the gold by 1/2 point. We took silver, which secretly irked everyone on my team, and as we were getting our medals our team captain spontaneously swore a vendetta against the winners, that we would destroy them next year. I don’t know how wise that was, but we’ll see.  It was such a close defeat that everyone blamed themselves, and as I was walking down the street to my car, the captain of the winning team drove by with his head out the window squelching mocking laughter, for some people chess is a blood sport, and seeing his pompous ass gloating, I swore we WOULD defeat them next year.

Go Club Meeting

It was a great meetings, a lot of strong players, we all got in good games. I still didnt get a game with Lien-Chu, but maybe next time.

Big Go Club meeting today

Today is our meeting at Barnes and Noble bookstore on maryland parkway. It’s going to be fun. We’ve had a lot of interest in this meeting. I’ve also been playing a lot of go online through IGS instead of my usual KGS. I put the GO playing robot back online for KGS in the Las Vegas Go Club Room. I usually post the pics of the club meetings over at the club website Las Vegas Go Club but since I am the President I will post todays meeting photo here as well just for the shear excitement of it. Talk to you soon.

It's late and Now I'm just screwing around with this thing.

ok I’m going to bed now, very tired.
