22 Legged Ant

Finally after much searching I found the configuration in the Mandelbrot set known as the 22-legged ant. It does not look exactly the same as the one in Dr. Rudy Rucker’s posts but I think that is mainly due to rendering software differences.

Carl Sagan is still a Genius

I don’t think I will ever stop being amazed by how intelligent Carl Sagan was nor how powerful his persuasion and wisdom are. Sometimes I really struggle with hope for the future, but hearing his words here gives me hope again.

Fractal Geometry Book

I ordered a great book, can’t wait for it to arrive.

UPDATE: The book has arrived and it is great!

Pi in the M-set

This is an interesting topic regarding how Pi figures into the M-Set.

Ghost Ship Fractal

Technically this fractal is called the “burning ship” but especially in the zoomed in view I think the flames look more like something from a gothic cathedral and thus, I am calling it the “Ghost Ship” fractal.

Ice-Crystal Fractal

This one is called “Ice Crystal” from the Gimp fractal renderer.

Mathologer Video on Mandelbrot Set

I love Mathologer’s videos. He has done some really great ones, including a really good one on the factorization formula for cubic polynomials. This most recent one about the Mandelbrot set is going to come in very handy in my exploration of the M-set.

in general people use fractals as main examples of Chaos, so when trying to find structure in fractals it is tempting to just throw your hands up in the air and proclaim “chaos”, but that just isn’t correct.

Exploring the M-set

Lately I have been exploring the M-set in search of a configuration known as the 22-legged ant. No luck so far but I have found some interesting scenery.
This one reminds me of Dragons:

As you probably know fractals have infinite self-similar subsets, this one is nestled in the heart of a spiral arm:

Initially this next one made me think I was getting closer to the configuration I was hunting for, but alas no, too many legs.

I call this one the jellyfish:

and I have labeled this one “The Cell”
